Descrizione
The volume is made up of nine essays on the theme of the Grand Tour, which is examined from different perspectives. The aim is that of tracing an up-to-date representation of a phenomenon that is typical of modern European culture, thus enlarging the traditional historical approach of examining diaries, letters, and travel narratives. The main question the essays here collected seem to discuss is: into what forms has the Grand Tour been transformed? How much of it continues to be valid when one speaks about an era of tourism characterized by a completely different attitude from that of the travellers who reached Italy in past centuries?
