Dorena Caroli is Full Professor of History of Pedagogy at the Department of Education Studies “Giovanni Maria Bertin” of the University of Bologna, where she teaches the history of education and comparative history of education. After her PhD at the Écoles des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, she has held research and teaching positions at different French and Russian universities. She recently published several articles about the history of textbooks in the Soviet Union, including in comparison to Italy. She published a comparative history of the day nurseries in Europe: Per una storia dell’asilo nido in Europa tra Otto e Novecento (Milan, 2014), translated into English as Day Nurseries and Childcare in Europe, 1800–1939 (London, 2017). She is also the author of the chapter Day Nurseries in Europe in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries: The Challenge of the Transnational Approach, in The Transnational in the History of Education. Concepts and Perspectives, edited by Eugenia Roldán Vera and Eckhardt Fuchs (Cham, 2019).
