Descrizione
Within the scope of linguistic criticism of literature, this study attempts to clarify how the interpersonal dimension of language functions in literary texts, poems in particular. In order to account adequately for the complex network of relationships which are estabilished in, and by means of, literary texts, Weaving words tries to integrate Halliday’s notion of interpersonal function with Benveniste’s theory of enunciation and Bakhtin’s and Volosinov’s propositions about dialogical structures. The analyses of Shakespeare’s sonnet 71 and Christina Rossetti’s sonnet Remember are aimed at demonstrating that understanding of how language works in literary texts constitutes a first fundamental step towards a more profound comprehension of cultural processes and practices.
