Headlines are probably the most read of all written texts. This book looks at their typical lexis and grammar and examines a mechanism which is frequently fount both in headlines and in newspapers in general, the extended noun phrase. The author argues that the extended noun phrase is used in headlines, as it is in scientific discourse, as a device to sum up information which the reader and the writer should have in common.
