This full-length study explores the relationschip berween violence and culture within Titus Andronicus as well as the connections between the play and the Renaissance theatre of blood elsewhere in Europe. With reference to a wide range of 20th-Century productions which have contributed to renewing critical interest in such a controversial play, it proposes a reading of the characters in the light of anamorphosis, the “curious perspective” that allows contrasting pictures to coexist on the same canvas. The volume is part of a trilogy of Titus Andrionicus and an annotated bibliography.
