This book is the result of a study carried out to investigate the language teaching context of English degree programs in Italian universities. The authors focus their inquiry on course objectives, teaching methods, didactic material and testing procedures, as well as on the pragmatic constraints present in the various teaching situations. A global view is presented of the most significant trends in university language teaching in the hope of stimulating further discussion among all those concerned with foreign language teaching and curriculum development in Italy and elsewhere.
